A correct height of the tow bar on your car is important for good road holding and a longer lifespan of the coupling of your trailer.
The height of the tow bar is important for good weight distribution and stable road holding.
Make sure that your tow bar is mounted at the correct height, the centre point of the ball should be between 37cm and 42cm above the ground.
If the tow bar is too high:
- Is there more vertical force on the tow bar, so also your vehicle. Typically the expectation is that the coupling pushes with about 50kg to 75kg on your tow bar.
- The TREK hook is mainly used to transfer longitudinal forces, i.e. in the length direction.
If the tow bar is too low:
- If the trailer tries to pull your vehicle up, the dynamic handling of your vehicle may be negatively affected.
- The front axle of your trailer (if it is a tandem or tridem axle) is unnecessarily loaded, which can cause accelerated wear and tear on these components.
